EPAM basketball team in Hungary includes active guys who train regularly with enthusiasm to achieve great successes, such as in the Business Leagues' autumn season, and invite all motivated colleagues to join them and set ambitious goals in sport together.
Basketball players at EPAM started practicing together in summer 2014, as soon as we could find a place for the team to practice regularly. It all began with six players, but this number is steadily growing and newcomers join the first team. Currently, there are almost twenty players - the majority is from EPAM, however there are a few players from other companies who attend basketball trainings.
It doesn’t matter whether you are a boy or a girl and whether you can play basketball professionally or haven’t practised before, but have a strong will to be a part of a friendly team. Basketball players from EPAM team will be glad to greet you.
Tamas Szikora, one of the team’s player-coaches:
Our team is mixed — we have one girl in our team now and in the first season, there were two girls participating in the championship. And, of course, everyone is welcomed at our practices. It’s good if a person played basketball before, but it’s not a requirement. We support all newcomers and teach them to play.
The team doesn’t confine themselves to regular trainings — EPAM basketball players compete with other companies in Hungary thus improving their skills and striving for victory. EPAM team became one of 42 participants in the Business Leagues’ autumn season and proved that their unity and persistence could be a way to success.
September 2015 was a starting point of the competition. Our team played against five teams in the first round, and then EPAM basketball players moved to the second group where they had to play against thirteen teams. In spite of the losses, they won fifteen games in a row, which is a huge team success. They improved together, stayed stronger — and eventually could take the first place in the Business League's B-League (the second group). Playing as Champions in the final round, EPAM basketball team won the 15th place.
“We have an extremely successful season behind us,” says Tamas. “With the winning of the B-League we made a huge step in achieving our goal, to make it to the A-League. As a team, we became stronger and more confident than ever and we promise we keep on doing our best on the basketball court in future!
“I’ll be happy to extend our roster and invite more people to improve the team. We always need reinforcement. Even if you are an amateur, you have a chance to study and gain a huge success in this field. I think it’s very important”.
