There’s always some special mystery hovering about Friday the 13th. Many people associate it with bad luck or call it the cause of all evil but last week the EPAM employees didn’t mind it at all for they could take part in a fantastic carnival event on the very same day. There was everything one could think of: from a cookie contest through a costume parade up to a number of celebrities and iconic figures visiting the event, like Joker from Batman or the dominant characters of the Eastern cultures – the geisha and the ninja. But let’s not rush ahead.
By the time the gates opened (around half past 6) the whole mess has been decorated with a lot of colorful balloons and paper streamers waiting for the guests, who slowly but surely started to arrive and with them came the assorted cakes. Having a cookie contest meant that everybody did his/hers best and brought so many sweets that it was impossible to taste them all. At the end the brownie cheesecake became the winner for it was heavenly delicious but of course everybody else deserved an honorable mention. It was a contest for not the cakes only but for the costumes as well. Calling the winner was a tough decision, as people came up with very creative ideas; we had everything under the sun – an orderly, a rock star, a belly dancer girl, a garbage man, a king, a pirate and even a gipsy girl. A comic book character won the title eventually and we’d like to congratulate her once again, but the others also did really well. I’m convinced everybody had a good time and what made this event even more special was that we all did so wearing a totally unusual outfit.
The awards for the best cookie and the best costume both went to Melinda Bodis (had no chance to take a pic of the cookies, sorry...)
The carnival fun in the mess finished at 9pm but the party continued – we all walked over to “The Grund” where we carried on drinking and dancing.
